Kuala Lumpur: The seedings for the 2016 Korea Open Superseries badminton tournaments have been confirmed, and both Lee Chong Wei and Carolina Marin were seeded top in the men’s singles and women’s singles events respectively.
The badminton powerhouse China has again decided to rest Chen Long, Lin Dan in men’s singles, and Li Xuerui, Wang Yihan, Wang Shixian in women’s singles. China only sent out its second unit that spearheaded by Tian Houwei (men’s singles), and Sun Yu (women’s singles) to Korea.
The No. 1 seed Lee Chong Wei and No. 3 seed Jan Jorgensen were drawn to meet in the semi-finals of this year’s Korea Open Superseries which starts on September 27th. Lee may have to play No. 2 seed Viktor Axelsen in the final if seeding holds.
World number one and Olympic champion Carolina Main may get an easy run to the finals since all her tough opponents such as Olympic silver medalists P.V Sindhu, No. 2 seed Nozomi Okuhara, and No. 3 seed Ratchanok Intanon were all grouped into the bottom half of the draw.
Despite hinted at retiring from international badminton after their disappointments in Rio Olympics, World No. 1 Lee Yong-Dae/Yoo Yeon-Seong are still topping the men’s doubles list.
Meanwhile, Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun/Shin Seung Chan have top billing in the women’s doubles, while Korea’s mixed doubles pair Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na became top seeds in the mixed doubles category.
