Alor Setar: World junior champion and 16-year-old women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei who was regarded as Lee Chong Wei’s successor in the Malaysia national team, secured a hard fought victory against her senior Ho Yen Mei 23-21, 21-16 in the Kedah Open final on Sunday.Congratulations to Goh Jin Wei for winning the Kedah Open.

Kedah Open was her second local title of the year. Goh won the Kuala Lumpur Open in May when Tee Jing Yi retired half way through the first set due to injury.

In men’s singles final, former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) shuttler Chong Wei Feng lost the first set to Soo Teck Zhi 18-21 and Chong almost lost the second set after he squandered a 16-9 lead to trail 16-18. However, he was able to save 2 match points to force the decider by winning the second set 22-20. He then outplayed Soo in the third set, clinching the men’s singles title with a 21-16 win in the decider.

Meanwhile, No. 2 seeds Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi overcame independent scratch pair Mohd Razif Latif-Mohd Hafiz Hashim 21-17, 21-11 to win the men’s doubles title.

Nevertheless, women’s doubles top seeds Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean couldn’t neutralize the aggressive attacks from unseeded Cheah Yee See/Peck Yen Wei, ended up losing 21-16, 16-21, 17-21 to their opponents.

In the mixed doubles final, World No. 25 pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing was firing on all cylinders to blast past Hoo Pang Ron-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-13, 21-16 in 35 minutes to claim the mixed doubles title.
