Rio: World No. 1 women’s singles player and Spain’s biggest gold medal hope in badminton – Carolina Marin told reporters “I am a new Carolina,” at a press conference in Rio.
She also fired an early warning to her opponents that she will be extremely competitive in Olympics.
“I am getting better in all aspects and I am mentally and physically tougher than ever,” added Marin.
Rio is Marin’s second Olympic outing. She was knocked out by the eventual champion Li Xuerui in the group stage at the 2012 London Olympics. However, Marin has since became a formidable force in world badminton by winning the 2014, 2015 World championship, and claimed the 2014, 2016 European women’s singles title.
Marin will kick off her Olympic opener against Nanna Vainio of Finland on August 11.
