Jakarta: When the Chinese badminton superstar Lin Dan went to Brazil to compete at the Brasil Open Grand Prix last November – hoping to know more about the venue and climate about Rio Olympics, he was disappointed by the Riocentro – Pavilion 4 stadium, where the Olympic badminton event will be held next month.
Lin told reporters that he was surprised to see the Olympic venue only has very limited seats. At that time, the Riocentro – Pavilion 4 stadium only had a seating capacity of no more than 500 and had a temporary stand of five layers.
On Tuesday, when speaking to Indonesian media, the Head of Public Relations and Social Media of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) – Yuni Kartika said that until now the Indonesian badminton team has not had the chance to examine in detail about the Riocentro – Pavilion 4 stadium, which consists of 23,000 square meters, has a floor-to-ceiling height of 12 meters and equipped with a low speed air conditioning system – making it suitable for the Rio badminton matches.
“We have not tried out the Riocentro – Pavilion 4 facility yet, therefore, we cannot comment on that,” said Kartika.
The Indonesian badminton Olympic squad had gone to Kudus in Central Java for the training camp from July 11 to July 18. The team will be leaving for Brazil on July 27th.
