Hyderabad: Malaysia women’s team capped off a stellar debut at the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) on Tuesday as they marched on to a 3-2 victory over Hong Kong.
First blood went the way of the Hong Kong as Cheung Ngan Yi started as she meant to go on with a 21-17, 17-21, 18-21 victory over Ho Yen Mei of Malaysia.
Malaysia’s first women’s doubles pair Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Vivian Hoo then levelled the score to 1-1 with a 21-18, 21-14 win over Fan Ka Yan/Yuen Sin Ying before Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong helped her team to edge ahead in the second women’s singles defeating Lim Yin Fun of Malaysia 14-21, 10-21.
Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean stunned Ng Tsz Yau/Yeung Nga Ting of Hong Kong by winning a breathtaking battle 21-16, 15-21, 21-16 to force a decisive fifth rubber.
Lady Luck continued to shine on Malaysia as the 16-year-old and 2015 World Junior Champion, Goh Jin Wei took the center stage and played an inspired third women’s singles match by defeating Ng Yung Wing 21-6 and 21-13.
Malaysia men’s team was in total control on Tuesday as they beat Sri Lanka 4-1 in their Group B opening tie.
