Genting: Petaling Jaya BC defeated Petaling BC on Thursday night’s Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge to set up a clash with Cheras BC for that 5th and 6th spot on Friday.
Petaling BC’s men’s singles player Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin got off to a shaky start when the Malaysian national shuttler dropped the first two sets against Petaling Jaya BC’s Satheishtharan but Iskandar showed why he was ranked No. 51 in the world by fighting back to win 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9.
World No. 113 Yang Li Lian then saw off Petaling BC’s Elisabeth Purwaningtyas 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-10 to leave the tie level at 5-5.
The mixed doubles pair from Indonesia, Ardiansyah Putra/Devi Tika Permatasari closed out the see-saw match against Thailand’s Prajaktha Sawant/Songphong Anugritayawon of Petaling Jaya BC with 9-11, 11-10, 11-10, 11-7 in 32 minutes.
Tang Chun Man/Or Chin Chung then trounced Petaling BC’s Lew Ming Hui/Shia Chun Kang to pull Petaling Jaya BC level with 9-9.
Krishnan Yogendran who lost to Chong Wei Feng of Kepong BC in the decisive match on Wednesday, did not let history repeat itself after beating Tan Vi Hen 11-10, 11-9, 11-3 to seal the victory for Petaling Jaya 12-9.
Earlier Thursday, the battle between Cheras BC and Serdang BC had to be decided through the total points collected by both sides after the final score was tied at 9-9. Cheras BC eventually secured a narrow 162-160 point win against Serdang BC in the 5th/8th match of Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge.
