Kuala Lumpur: Kento Momota may have lost his match against Evert Sukamta in the tie between Ampang Jaya BC and Klang United BC on Tuesday, but it had no impact on the final outcome as Ampang United already cemented the victory with 10-4 lead even before Momota stepped onto the court to play the second men’s singles match.
Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong started strong for Ampang Jaya when he beat Leong Jun Hao 3-1 in the first men’s singles match.
However, Ho Yen Mei of Ampang Jaya couldn’t get the winning momentum going against former Singaporean player Zhang Bei Wen who now resides in USA, losing to Zhang 9-11, 11-6, 7-11, 4-11.
Fortunately, Kuan Kam Chung/Shevon Lai Jemie and Ong Yew Sin/Rendy Sugiarto have put forth supreme efforts to defeat their opponents from Klang United in mixed doubles and men’s doubles respectively to secure the tie in Ampang Jaya favor with 9-4.
Ampang Jaya eventually ended the tie with 11-7 over Klang United after Kento Momota lost his second men’s singles match and held onto the No. 8 spot in Purple League standings with 4 wins and 6 losses.
On Wednesday, the current No. 9 team Nusajaya will battle No. 5 team Petaling BC. If Nusajaya could win their last two ties, on the condition that Ampang Jaya are defeated in their last two ties, Nusajaya could replace Ampang Jaya in the 8th spot and would qualify for Purple League’s Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge.
Meanwhile, Puchong United are overwhelming favorites to beat the worst team in the league Kajang BC on Wednesday.
