Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s Purple League ended the ninth round of the contest on Sunday, and despite the absence of Lee Chong Wei, Petaling Jaya BC were able to defeat Cheras BC 12-7 to move up one spot to No. 2 in the Purple League standings.
Petaling Jaya were given boost in their first four matches when Satheishtharan, Yang Li Lian, Nipitphon Puangpuapech/Woon Khe Wei, and Or Chin Chung/Tang Chun Man registered wins in first men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s doubles respectively. Even though Zulfadli Zulkifli of Cheras BC completed the tie with 3-0 victory over Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, the overall result of the tie was not being affected.
Earlier on Sunday, Nusajaya established a 12-3 advantage against Klang United BC through Tam Chun Hei, Lee Ying Ying, Cheah Yee See/Tan Kian Meng, Goh Soon Huat/Teo Kok Siang before their teammates Boonsak Ponsana lost 11-6, 5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11 to Evert Sukamta of Klang United.
In last tie of the day, despite the strong showings from Goh Jin Wei and Wang Tzu Wei from Serdang BC by defeating Tee Jing Yee in women’s singles and Chong Wei Feng in men’s singles respectively, they couldn’t make up the lost points by going down to Kepong BC 9-11.
With Muar City BC are guaranteed to finish top in this year’s Purple League regular season and take home RM 1 million dollars, second place on the Purple League is still up for grabs between Petaling Jaya and Cheras. The results of last two ties before end of the 2014/2015 season would determine who could stay in the No. 2 spot and make RM 300,000 dollars while the third team in the league will earn RM 150,000 dollars.
