Kuala Lumpur: World No. 1 men’s doubles player Lee Yong-Dae enjoyed strong debut in the Malaysia Purple League on Tuesday, when he and former World No. 1 men’s doubles ace Tan Boon Heong teamed up to defeat Hoon Thien How/Teo Kok Siang 11-8, 11-3, 11-5 in 27 minutes to give Muar City BC a 12-2 lead over Nusajaya BC.
Prior to the men’s doubles match, Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi started for Muar City in the first men’s singles match where he dismissed Tam Chun Hei of Nusajaya 11-3, 8-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8 in 52 minutes.
Kim Mun Hee and Chow Mei Kuan/Han Sang Hun then celebrated their victories for Muar City after they dispatched their opponents in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events.
In the last men’s singles match, Tommy Sugiarto put up 3-1 against Goh Soon Huat, helping Muar City to finish the tie with a final score of 15-3.
Mohamad Arif Bin Ab Latif produced a late comeback to earn a 3-1 victory over Chong Wei Feng and carried Cheras BC across finish line by denying Kepong BC with 9-8 final score in the second tie of the day.
