Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) world rankings have remained relatively stable over the past week, as there were no changes to the top 10 of men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Chinese badminton ace Chen Long has continued his domination in the men’s singles category, topping the standings with 98,681 points to hold an advantage of 22,344 points over second placed Dane Jan O Jorgensen, followed by Lin Dan, Kento Momota, and Kidambi Srikanth in the third, fourth and fifth spot. Lee Chong Wei stayed at No. 9, with 53,983 points.
If Chen Long is able to reach the finals of China Open on this coming Sunday, he would reach a massive milestone by shooting pass the 100,000 mark in his BWF ranking points.
Carolina Marin extended her lead atop the BWF’s women’s singles rankings, eclipsing the 86,662-point threshold, holding as many as 4,880 extra points compare to No. 2 Saina Nehwal. Tai Tzu Ying, Sung Ji Hyun, Ratchanok Intanon, Wang Shixian, Li Xuerui, Wang Yihan, Akane Yamaguchi, Nozomi Okuhara were ranked in the top ten. Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi remained constant at No. 34.
Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea still the clear world No. 1 men’s doubles pair with 98,530 points. World No. 2 Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan were 19,743 points behind, followed by Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan, Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen, and Chai Biao/Hong Wei in the world’s top 5. Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong dropped a spot to No. 15, while former World No. 1 Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong also fell one place to No. 22.
Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi kept the lead in the women’s doubles rankings, but were followed closely behind by Luo Ying/Luo Yu, with a difference of 1,429 points between the top two women’s doubles teams. The rest of the top 5 women’s doubles rankings held steady by Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii, Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen, and Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei. Both Malaysian women’s doubles pairs Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei and Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho captured the No. 10 and No. 19 spots respectively.
After claiming total of six titles in 2015, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei cemented their status as the world’s top ranked mixed doubles pair in the BWF’s latest rankings. While reaching new historical heights in their career, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei also opened a wide gap between them and the second ranked Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir. Zhang/Zhao currently have 102,935 points to Ahmad/Natsir’s 79,932 and No. 3 Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin’s 77,000. After the top three, No. 4 Xu Chen/Ma Jin owned 74,851 points and No. 5 Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen 74,074. Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying secured the No. 15 position with 40,730 points.
