Lima: The Malaysian team was in control of the 2015 World Junior Mixed Team Championships against El Salvador after Anna Cheong Ching Yik/Soh Wooi Yik, Cheam June Wei, Goh Jin Wei and their teammates all won their respective matches, roaring to a 5-0 victory in the Group A2 first round tie on Wednesday.
Mixed doubles pair Anna Cheong Ching Yik/Soh Wooi Yik got the shuttlecock flying when they defeated Jassiel Guardado/Mazee Hernandez 21-1, 21-6 in just 15 minutes.
Cheam June Wei ensured the Malaysian team completed with a 2-0 lead after the men’s singles match when he beat Uriel Canjura in straight sets 21-5, 21-9.
Goh Jin Wei then wrapped up the third match when she saw off Fatima Centeno 21-7, 21-6 in 17 minutes in the women’s singles match.
Men’s doubles pair of Goh Sze Fei/Tan Jinn Hwa sent Uriel Canjura/Jassiel Guardado packing with 21-1, 21-7 in 15 minutes to put Malaysia at 4-0 lead.
Then, Thinaah Muralitharan/Teoh Mei Xing claimed a one-sided deciding fifth match, beating Fatima Centeno/Mazee Hernandez 21-5, 21-4 in 14 minutes to propel Malaysia to a 5-0 victory in Lima and sealed their first wins in Group A2 of the World Junior Mixed Team Championships.
Malaysia will play Zambia and USA on Thursday and India on Friday to determine which team will be the champion of Group A2.
