Yverdon-les-Bains: Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin bagged his second European title today, following his victory in the Swiss International Challenge final.
Iskandar, 24, upset third seed Lang Ville of Finland 21-19, 16-21, 21-11 in a 66 minute match. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) shuttler, last month won the Polish International Series. The title is Iskandar’s fourth this year after the Perak Open and Singapore International Series.
“The tournament is not a big one, but I’m happy to be winning something.”
“I should be breaking into the world top 50 after this. I don’t wish to pressure myself but I do hope to reach the top 30 by the end of the year,” said Iskandar, who has been in Europe for month than a month as part of a training stint.
The Johorean, who is now ranked No 58 in the world will be returning to Kuala Lumpur first before leaving for the Korea Masters GP Gold next month.
Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, fresh from their Dutch Open GP success last week, also came good after beating England’s Peter Briggs-Tom Wolfenden 18-21, 21-16, 21-16.
The independent men’s duo, who are hoping to qualify for next year’s Olympics will be playing at the French Open that starts on Tuesday next.
