New York: Despite declining in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings to No. 180, Lee Chong Wei was aiming to continue the quest for his first title of the year at US Open.
Lee Chong Wei made seamless progress at the US Open on Friday by ousting the 11th seed Rajiv Ouseph of England 21-9, 21-14 to reach the semi-finals. The unseeded Malaysian got the job done in 32 minutes and will take on 6th seed B. Sai Praneeth of India in the last four on Saturday.
Former world champion Hendrawan who currently coaching Lee Chong Wei, was not too worried about the huge drop in Lee’s rankings.
“Lee Chong Wei is a professional player, he understands the big picture extremely well and will not be affected by the slipping in world rankings,” said Hendrawan.
“Chong Wei is not bothered by the fact that he is an unseeded player at US Open, he is just aiming to triumph at the US Open,” added Hendrawan.
