Kuala Lumpur: He Guoquan who was tasked to turn three young Malaysian men’s singles shuttlers – Soo Teck Zhi, Lim Chi Wing and Cheam June Wei into world-beaters, has tendered his resignation to Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on Wednesday, citing personal reasons.Resignation of He Guoquan is a big blow to BAM.

He Guoquan has played an important part of Lin Dan’s growth as a junior. He coached the two-time Olympic champion when Lin Dan was aged between 13 and 18 under the Military 81 junior squad.

He GuoQuan was named as chief coach of the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) in February, unfortunately he ended his relationship with BAM just after 7-month stint in Malaysia.

“I have to admit, his resignation caught me by surprise,” said the technical director of BAM, Morten Frost Hansen.

“He and I met last Tuesday, and said he wanted to leave. I gave him 24 hours to reconsider his decision, but eventually he refused to withdraw his resignation,” added Frost.

In January, four BJSS coaches – Zhou Kejian (chief coach), Chong Kien Ling, Poh Chai Boon and Chin Tze Seong – resigned before Frost’s arrival, and now, He Guoquan was added to BJSS’s list of resigned coaches in 2015.

“I had already made arrangements for Guoquan, but now we’ll need to find someone to take over his responsibilities. Soo Teck Zhi, Lim Chi Wing and Cheam June Wei who have been trained under Guaquan, will be place under the supervision of former world champion Hendrawan, temporarily.

“Things happen, but we just need to keep going and keep moving forward,” said Frost.
