Kuala Lumpur: Lee Chong Wei who has been named captain of the Malaysia Sudirman Cup squad, urged the Malaysian shuttlers to play their best at the Sudirman Cup held in Dongguan, China from May 10 to 17.
Lee said he would try to win the men’s singles point for the team, and hope that could keep others motivated and going.
“Sudirman Cup is a mixed team event, my teammates should not be discouraged even if I lose my match. If we all bring our A game, I am confidence we could pull off the amazing feat like we did in last year’s Thomas cup,” said Lee at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport before boarding the flight to Dongguan, China, on Wednesday.
Malaysia who lost to Taiwan 2-3 (the two points came from Lee Chong Wei, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying) and Germany 2-3 (two points came from Lee Chong Wei, Lim Khim Wah/Goh V Shem) in the 2013 edition which was held in Kuala Lumpur, have been drawn in Group 1D with South Korea and India.
“If we all play our best, we have a chance to make it to the quarter-finals,” added Lee.
