Singapore: Indonesian shuttler Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka produced a sizzling display to hand Chong Wei Feng of Malaysia his opening-round defeat in the first round of Singapore Open on Wednesday. Rumbaka won the match 21-12, 21-13 in 35 minutes. Simon Santoso who won the Singapore Open last year, saw off the challenge from Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia 21-14, 21-14 to advance to the second round.
In women’s singles, Malaysian Tee Jing Yi who picked up a calf injury at the Malaysia Open, has no answer to China’s Sun Yu on Wednesday, Tee bowed out 10-21, 9-21 in 32 minutes.
All other Malaysians players were entirely wiped out in the first round of Singapore Open on Wednesday. Men’s doubles Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong were defeated by Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan 21-18, 15-21, 14-21, and Chooi Kah Ming/Ow Yao Han were knocked out of the tournament by Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin of Taiwan 11-21, 15-21. In women’s doubles, Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho were sent packing by third seeds Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang of China 15-21, 8-21.
Top seeded men’s singles player Chen Long of China, second seeded Jan Jorgensen, and third seeded Kidambi Srikanth all made it to the second round.
