Kuala Lumpur: In the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), after his All England triumph, Chen Long of China cemented his place as the No. 1 men’s singles player of the world for the 12 consecutive weeks, followed by Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the second place.
Lin Dan of China who failed in his bid to reach final of the 2015 All England, has taken a small leap in the BWF rankings as he was ranked world No. 3, while rising male shuttler Kidambi Srikanth of India also returned to his career-best fourth spot.
Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei who hasn’t play any international tournaments in nearly five months, dropped from No. 3 to No.8 spot. The last time Lee Chong Wei was ranked outside the top three in the BWF rankings was in 2007, where he was ranked fourth.
Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China secured the world number one ranking in the women’s singles category. Riding on her stupendous performance at the prestigious All England Championship last week, India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal regained the world number two spot in the latest rankings while Wang Shixian was in the third spot. Reigining All England champion Carolina Marin of Spain also moved up two spots to rank at No. 4.
Despite their first round exit at last week’s All England, South Korean’s Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong managed to hold on to the No.1 spot in men’s doubles, followed by Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen in No. 2. Malaysia’s Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong made a sharp rise in the rankings, improved 25 spots to rank at No. 56.
Women’s doubles of China Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei still occupying the No.1 spot, the highest ranking for Malaysian pair was Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei at No. 17.
Zhao Yunlei was also ranked No. 1 in mixed doubles together with her boyfriend Zhang Nan. Wong Fai Yin/Chow Mei Kuan was the highest ranked mixed doubles pair from Malaysia, jumped two placeless to be world No. 47.
