Wien: When Iskandar Zulkarnain was shown probably the most controversial red card of badminton in years, men’s singles final of the 2015 Austrian Open was ended abruptly upon his disqualification from the tournament. 
In the quest for his first international title at the 2015 Austrian Open International Challenge men’s singles final in Wien, Austria, Malaysian men’s singles back-up shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin got off to a good start against first seed Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong by taking the first 21-14. But the top seed Angus Ng Ka Long regrouped to force a decider after he staved off Iskandar in the second set 21-18.
Iskandar Zulkarnain and Angus Ng Ka Long were neck and neck in the third set. Iskandar managed to level the score at 19-19 in the decider, before Angus Ng Ka Long responded by hitting down the shuttlecock deep into the right corner of Iskandar’s baseline to put himself ahead with 20-19. Iskandar then tried to calm himself down by tying his shoe laces, but the umpire issued him a yellow card immediately as a warning for delay of game. After his brief discussion with the umpire regarding the yellow card, Iskandar went for a towel break without the permission from the umpire, and was handed a red card right away by the umpire.
Angus Ng Ka Long was declared winner after the match was overshadowed by that umpire’s controversial decision.
Meanwhile, Peter Gade of Denmark defeated Austrian shuttler Michael Lahnsteiner 11-4,11-10,9-11,11-10 in an exhibition match that was designed to pay tribute and to make a special farewell for Michael Lahnsteiner’s badminton career.
