“It feels great to win and I can’t be more thankful to my partner Liu Ying especially when we haven’t been playing together for so long. However, we need to work very hard in the coming months to further improve our games,” said Chan Peng Soon.

In the women’s singles, 15-year-old Goh Jin Wei completed her fairytale run in the tournament when she became the youngest shuttler to ever win a local Open title in Malaysia. Standing at the height of 157 cm, Jin Wei put up a gallant battle on Sunday, fought back from one set down to beat Malaysia’s No. 4 women’s singles player Lim Yin Fun 21-13, 22-24, 21-19 in a match that lasted 69 minutes.

“I suffered abdominal cramps halfway through the second set, but fortunately I was able to get back into the game and to play well in the decider,” said Jin Wei.

“As far as my goal for this year, I’m hoping for good result in the World Junior Championships, I really hope I could one day become the world junior champion,” added Jin Wei.

Meanwhile, after winning the 2014 Sabah Open, Goh Soon Huat added second local title to his collection on Sunday when he edged past former Malaysian national player Tan Chun Seang 21-12, 21-19 in the men’s singles final. Malaysia’s national backup men’s doubles pair – Tan Wee Gieen/Teo Ee Yi claimed the men’s doubles title with a 21-16, 21-11 triumph over Mohd Lutfi Zaim Bin Abdul Khalid/Wong Fai Yin.
