Kuala Lumpur: After Muar City were found for a failure to comply with Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) ranking when fielding Malaysian mixed doubles expert Chan Peng Soon in their lineup, Purple League has imposed a penalty to vacate 17 wins that played by Chan Peng Soon. Reversely, Muar City’s opponents were rewarded 3-0 win on those 17 matches.
Chan Peng Soon has also been disqualified for playing the remaining ties in the season.
Purple League’s CEO Jack Koh admitted the problem was caused by a “technical problem”.
“Even though we knew about this issue at the end of the season, we took swift action to close the loophole, so that we could maintain our degree of professionalism and to ensure we are bound to rules set by BWF,” said Jack Koh.
Muar City team manager Jason Wong said he accepted the penalty for the benefit of the league and the players.
“We must demonstrate our leadership and accept the imposed punishment. We want to guarantee the matches and players in the league are always playing to the highest international standard,” said Jason Wong.
As a result of this punishment, Kajang rise through the Purple League rankings from 11th place to 10th, while Nusajaya fell from 10th to 11th.
