Lucknow: In an action-packed final day of Syed Modi India Masters, 27-year-old Amelia Alicia Anscelly and 26-year-old Soong Fie Cho of Malaysia upset compatriot top seeds Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei 22-20, 21-15 to win their first title since the 2013,2014 Iran International Challenge.
“We’ve played together for 3 years, and this is the biggest title we’ve won so far. We hope we can keep playing well to qualify for the 2016 Olympics,” said Amelia.
Their coach Rosman Razak was also proud of Amelia and Fie Cho’s performance.
“Vivian Hoo was playing with an injured finger, but I must congratulate Amelia and Fie Cho who came out with a stupendous performance tonight to win the title,” said Rosman.
Saina Nehwal of India continued her dominance in the women’s singles final over Spaniard Marin Carolina with a gritty 19-21, 25-23, 21-16 win in 79 minutes to retain the Syed Modi India Masters title. The victory was Saina’s third career win over Marin Carolina.
Both Indian shuttlers Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth played a lot of hard smashing, quick rallies at the net and speedy rescue at all corners of the courts in the men’s singles final on Sunday. It was the third seed Parupalli Kashyap who managed to keep his cool to tame compatriot Kidambi Srikanth for the men’s singles title. Kashyap won the match 23-21, 23-21 in 52 minutes at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium.
Men’s doubles top seeds Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark proved they were in a class on their own when they knocked out Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sozonov 21-9, 22-20 in 29 minutes for the men’s doubles title.
Indonesian mixed doubles pair Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili were barely tested as they blasted past Manu Attri/K. Maneesha of India to lift the mixed doubles crown.
