Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian shuttler Chong Wei Feng sustained a hamstring injury at India Masters on Friday when the score was tied at 8-8 in the second set against top seed Kidambi Srikanth of India. Wei Feng won the first set at 21-17, lost in second set 12-21 while playing through the injury, before he gave Srikanth a walkover in the third set. Kidambi Srikanth will play H. S. Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing maintained their cool to defeat Chayut Triyachart/Shinta Mulia Sari of Singapore 21-17, 21-17. They will clash with top seeds Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili from Indonesia on Saturday.

After crashed out in the second round of Malaysia Masters last Thursday, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei prevailed to the women’s doubles semi-final together with another Malaysian women’s doubles pair Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho.

In the women’s singles semi-finals, Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal will face Thailand’s Nichaon Jindapon, who moved past Indian P.C. Thulasi 21-16, 20-22, 21-12 in an hour five minutes; meanwhile, two-time World Championships bronze medalist P.V Sindhu faces a tough challenger against reigning world champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the semi-final, who needed just 29 minutes to thrash Thai Chochuwong Pornpawee 21-11, 21-13. The 19-year-old P.V Sindhu trailed 1-2 in career meetings against the 21-year-old Spaniard.
