Lee Yong-Dae joins Purple League’s Muar City as a mentor

Kuala Lumpur: World number one men’s doubles player Lee Yong-Dae has joined Muar City in the role of mentor. He would not compete in Purple League, instead, he would be offering advice and sharing experience with the Muar City players.

Lee Yong-Dae’s presence also helped boosted confidence of Muar City men’s doubles players such as Teo Kok Siang, Mak Hee Chun, Tan Bin Shen, Chow Pak Chuu, Tan Wee Kiong, Au Kok Leong, Akmal Rumsani and Fairuz Fauzy. Lee also planned to work with Robert Blair of Scotland, Chan Peng Soon, Vivian Hoon, Chow Mei Kuan, Arif Latif, Lim Pei Chin Kah Mun Yee to strengthen the mixed doubles of Muar City.Lee Hyun-Il (left) and Lee Yong-Dae (Photo: Purple League)

When talking about his goals in 2015, the men’s doubles ace said he would try to win 5 to 6 Superseries titles this year, and he also determined to conquer the World Championships that that he has never won in 2015. He also believed Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) could produce top men’s doubles pair at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year, and he looked forward to play with those Malaysian pairs.

Meanwhile, Lee Hyun-Il, who won the men’s singles title at the Malaysia Masters in Kuching last Sunday, and Thailand International Challenge two weeks ago, was tasked to assist with developing and guiding men’s singles players such as Tan Chun Seang of Malaysia, Ronald Susilo of Singapore and Indonesian Fikri Setiawan for Muar City.

After a 10-day break, the Kopiko Purple League will enter next phase of competition on Wednesday at Sports Arena, Petaling Jaya. Muar City will take on Petaling Jaya BC at 7pm on Thursday.
