Hong Kong: The fifth seed Carolina Marin of Spain, outclassed Tee Jing Yi in the women’s singles quarter-final at the Hong Kong Open, winning 21-8, 21-17 and move a step closer to the semi-final on Saturday.

“I was having difficulty in coping with the vicious attacks from Carolina, she was too fast, and obviously I still need more work to improve my game performance,” said Jing Yi.

The 21-year-old reigning world champion from Spain will face Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the semi-final. However, last Sunday’s China Open women’s singles champion Saina Nehwal of India was eliminated by Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying with a 15-21, 19-21 defeat in another quarter-final tie that lasted 39 minutes.

Top seed Chen Long of China dominated Japan’s Takuma Ueda 21-16,21-11 in the men’s singles quarter-final match to set up a clash with K. Srikanth of India in the semi-final. K. Srikanth continued his rampaging run at the tournament with a 21-14,21-15 win over Hong Kong’s Wei. Son Wan Ho from Korea and Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark will feature in the other semi-final on Saturday.
