Hong Kong: The fifth seed Carolina Marin of Spain, outclassed Tee Jing Yi in the women’s singles quarter-final at the Hong Kong Open, winning 21-8, 21-17 and move a step closer to the semi-final on Saturday.
Marin won the first set easily, but Tee was giving Marin a run for the money in the second set before conceded to a more aggressive Marin in 27 minutes.
“I was having difficulty in coping with the vicious attacks from Carolina, she was too fast, and obviously I still need more work to improve my game performance,” said Jing Yi.
The 21-year-old reigning world champion from Spain will face Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the semi-final. However, last Sunday’s China Open women’s singles champion Saina Nehwal of India was eliminated by Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying with a 15-21, 19-21 defeat in another quarter-final tie that lasted 39 minutes.
