Kuala Lumpur: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has been temporarily suspended until the Badminton World Federation (BWF) hearing, which will be decided soon.
The 32 year-old Chong Wei has proclaimed his innocence and has denied taking the drugs intentionally.
In the press conference held by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on Saturday, BAM deputy president-Datuk Norza Zakaria indicated that BWF doping hearing panel will soon be providing the time, date and location of the hearing.
“The player has done a lot for BAM and for the country, that’s why we are going through these processes to protect and to defend him.”
“Based on our own investigation, we have concluded that he is innocent. We will cooperate fully with BWF and hope for a positive outcome.”
If the 32-year-old is found guilty, Chong Wei will face a two-year suspension but may escape with a warning or a six-month suspension if he can prove that he had taken it unintentionally.
