Incheon: Lin Dan did it again! “Super Dan” produced a magical display in Asian Games men’s singles final to overcome the ferocious Cheng Long and successfully defended the title on Monday.
Chen Long started the first game aggressively, opened up a quick 11-4 lead with his forceful smashes. Lin Dan couldn’t get anything going as Chen managed to return Lin’s shots and blocked powerful drives. Chen went on to win the first set 21-12 in 22 minutes.
Lin took a 11-8 lead at the interval of second set, but Chen managed to climb back at 16-16, before Lin answered with several amazing net shots that ended the second set 21-16 with a cross-court smash.
Chen failed to take advantage of Lin Dan’s mistakes early in the third set, before “Super Dan” unleashed his cross-court drives, and his signature diving defense against his younger compatriot. Chen Long eventually raised the white flag and let Lin sealed the decider 21-16.
This is Lin Dan’s 7-0 head-to-head career record win against Cheng Long.
In the mixed doubles final, China’s world number ones Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei beat Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia to win the title 21-16 21-14.
