Copenhagen: While Wang Zhengming had an easy opening match on day one of World Championships by winning 21-15, 21-12 against Michal Rogalski of Poland in 34 minutes, he still missed those days where he was competing together with his big brother – Du Pengyu.
Wang looked rather emotion when asked about Du Pengyu who has decided to retire from badminton prior to the World Championships.
“I felt really sorry for Du Pengyu’s retirement, he has dedicated his life to badminton and that was a very difficult decision for him. We were very close in the national team, he was always inspirational and was a great role model among his peers, it’s really hard to say good bye to him,” said Wang Zhengming.
Wang Zhengming, the 2008 world junior champion has been struggling to make a name for himself in the senior level tournaments. He won his first senior international title, the Swiss Open in March 2013, beating compatriot Du Pengyu in the final 21-18 21-18; and won 2013 China Masters Super Series later that year by defeated Shon Wan-ho of Korea 11-21, 21-14, 24-22 in the final.
However, those results were not sufficient enough to secure his spot in the Chinese national team that have no shortage of men’s singles talents. Recently, Wang Zhengming was dropped from the Chinese Asiad team to free up the roster space for Lin Dan and some younger shuttlers. 
When asked about what keeps him motivated and focused for badminton, he said: “The Olympics, my dream is to participate in the Olympics!”
