Glasgow: The mixed doubles scratch pair of Goh V Shem-Lim Yin Loo was the only Malaysian that didn’t make it to the round of 16 at Commonwealth Games’ individual badminton events on Wednesday. They suffered a hard-fought, 21-15, 14-21, 14-21 loss to world number 13 Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier of Scotland in 58 minutes. Blair-Bankier will play Terry Hee-Fu Mingtian of Singapore tomorrow.
In men’s singles, Chong Wei Feng needed just 30 minutes to breeze through to the last 16 in men’s singles with a 21-13 21-10 victory over Buwaneka Dullewa of Sri Lanka. He will face Tony Stephenson of Northern Ireland on Thursday.
Daren Liew of Malaysia also dispatched his opponent from Ghana 21-14, 21-16 with ease and will face Dinuka Karunnaratna from Sri Lanka in final 16.
There wasn’t much trouble for Tee Jing Yi in round of 32 who knocked off Elme De Villiers of South Africa 21-12, 21-13. Her round of 16 opponent will be Nadeesha Murukkuwadura of Sri Lanka.
