Jakarta: On Sunday, Denmark’s Jan O. Jorgensen defeated Kenichi Tago to win the men’s singles title.
In the women’s singles final, world number one Li Xuerui of China defeated Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-13, 21-13 in 37 minutes to win the title.
Li started the game with her formidable strokes, well-placed string of smashes, forcing Intanon to run all over the court to make low quality returns as she caved in under pressure.
“I’m proud of my achievement. I did not concern too much about the final points or result, I just focused on my game,” Li said after the match.
Intanon conceded she did not play well after her long match against China’s Wang Shixian in Saturday’s semi-final, which she won 19-21, 21-16, 21-13.
“I ran out of energy today. I also did not expect that much to win,” Intanon said.
Coming into the men’s double final, it was a disappointment for the home crowd, as their local favorite world No. 1 Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan faltered in the men’s doubles final. Similar to last week’s Japan Open final, Lee Yong dae- Yoo Yeon-seong once again thwarted the ambitions of their gutted Indonesian rivals for winning Indonesia Open on home turf with a 21-15, 21-17 victory.
Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen fought hard to bounce back from one game down to win the mixed doubles title against Xu Chen-Ma Jin of China with 18-21 21-16 21-14.
Ma Jin later pulled out of the women’s doubles final together with her partner Tang Yuanting due to torn muscle on her right thigh. The pair of Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei took the title without breaking a sweat.
