Beijing: China is the superpower of badminton, they have solid depth of elite shuttlers that ranked in the top 100. These shuttlers provided China more versatility for designing a better line-up to target certain tournaments. And you are right, China is capable of pulling off another surprising twist in this year’s World Championship by adding Lin Dan to its roster.
This is how they can do it.
Currently, according to the Phase 1 qualifiers list released by Badminton World Federation (BWF) on April 25, three Chinese players, Chen Long (world No. 2), Du Pengyu (No. 6) and Wang Zhengming (No. 7) are eligible to play in the World Championships in Copenhagen from Aug 25-31. The deadline for submitting the definitive list to BWF is on May 8. Until then, each country still has time to think about who they want to send to Copenhagen .
If China wants Lin Dan to play in Copenhagen, they will have to withdraw one of the 3 players mentioned above, and then to skip over 3 more Chinese players Chen Yuekun (No. 34), Gao Huan (No. 43) and Song Xue (No. 47) to include world No. 83 Lin Dan as their third singles in the world championships 2014.
Whatever the decision China and BWF make, BadmintonPlanet.com hopes the end results would be really exciting for the fans and the sport of Badminton.
