Kuala Lumpur: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei will meet Chen Long from China in the Yonex Sunrise – India Open Super Series badminton championships on Sunday. This is their third clash this year.In the other semi-final, second seed Chen Long came through by the skin of his teeth with a titanic 21-15, 21-23, 21-19 win over a pumped-up Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in a 79-minute encounter.

Lee Chong Wei had to work extra hard to defeat another Chinese player, Du Pengyu in a thrilling three set match 21-17, 19-21, 21-14 that lasted an hour 12 minutes.

“I was ahead 15-11 in the second game and then for some reason, I lost my focus, and started making a lot of careless mistakes. Fortunately, I won the third set,” the world number one said.

 

Chong Wei is ready and determined to defend his title on Sunday.

 

At the other men’s singles semifinal, Chen Long staved off determined fight back from Jan O Jorgensen from Denmark to prevail 21-15, 21-23, and 21-19 in another edge-of-the-seat thriller that lasted for one hour and 19 minutes.

 

The last time Chong Wei played against world number two Chen Long was at the Yonex All England Open 2014 last month, which Lee Chong Wei won the match 21-13, 21-18.

 

The total price money for India Open this year is US$250,000.
