PASIR GUDANG: Tan Boon Heong-Ow Yao Han survived a thrilling match against Hardianto Hardianto-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra of Indonesia, winning 28-26, 21-13, in a 43-minute hard fought match of the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Stadium. They are going to face Markis Kido-Gidoen Markus Fernaldi for a place in the semi-finals. “Frankly, I was lost and thinking about quitting when Kien Keat resigned,” admitted Boon Heong. "But, I told myself, why don't I give my career another chance by partnering some one younger? Then, the coaches asked me to play with two-time world junior champion Ow Yao Han  in three international tournaments (the ongoing Malaysia Open GP, India and Singapore Superseries) and see how it goes?"

"I decided to give it a try and this would also help guide younger player such as Yaw Han,” he said.

 

And Boon Heong did exactly what he said on Thursday, on numerous occasions, he was able to calm a nervous Yao Han from cracking under pressure in an intense match. 

Said the 23-year-old Yao Han: “ I kept making mistakes during the match, and I really got nervous towards the end. I really appreciate Boon Heong who was able to stay calm and even tried to cover for me. That really helped. I am going to evaluate my performance with him and hope I can do better in quarter-finals.”

The defending champions Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem also had a scared from another younger Malaysia's fearless young pair Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi before prevailed to win the match 21-18, 15-21, 21-11.

“Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi played very well today, and totally outpace us in the second game, kudo to them. We would not underestimate any of our opponent going forward.”
