KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Soon Huat – the back-up shuttler from Malaysia will be part of the Malaysia Thomas cup team after beating
Tan Chun Seang (former BAM player) 21-14, 21-13 in the three-day selections trials at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara on Friday.
Misbun Ramdan Misbun and former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli pulled out of the trials due to personal health reasons.
During the trial, Soon Huat showed his fighting spirit and steely determination, and he is likely to be join the Thomas Cup team as the fourth men’s singles player.
Coaches has submitted his name to BAM, and Soon Huat said he had performed his best, and would leave the rest to BAM.
“By finishing first in the trials, I have proven what I can do, and how I can help the Thomas Cup squad. I really hope I have a chance to be the fourth ranked player. I am very pleased about my performance.” said Soon Huat.
“2 years ago, I sparred with the Thomas Cup team that took part held in Wuhan. The Finals' atmosphere was breathtaking. This time, I hope I can be the one of the official member for the team.”
Soon Huat has been hampered with illness on and off since last year. He suffered constant dizzy spells and even fainted while in action during the Indonesia Open GP Gold in September. These problems caused him only competed in seven international tournaments for the last one year.
“I had a blood clot somewhere near my brain. Doctor didn't know what caused that blood clot. I underwent a sugery to remove that blood clot last October."
“I feel healthier, I play well, and I want to get the momentum going ” said Soon Huat.
On the men's doubles trials, Ow Yao Han-Chan Peng Soon were the winners after defeated Low Juan Shen-Nelson Heg Wei Keat 19-21, 21-16, 21-18 on Friday.

Singles: Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Goh Soon Huat.
Doubles: Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, Tan Boon Heong, Chan Peng Soon or Ow Yao Han.
Uber Cup
Singles: Tee Jing Yi, Yang Li Lian, Lim Chiew Sien, Lim Yin Fun.
Doubles: Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo, Ng Hui Lin-Ng Hui Ern, Amelia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho.
