Yeosu: Malaysia’s talented World No. 23 men’s singles player, Ng Tze Yong, displayed exceptional skills as he defeated Hong Kong’s World No. 14, Ng Ka Long, in an exhilarating second-round match at the Korea Open.

Ng Tze Yong’s brilliant performance led to a well-deserved 21-18, 21-17 victory over Ng Ka Long, propelling him into the quarterfinals at Jinnam Stadium, Yeosu.
This marks the second time Ng Tze Yong has triumphed over Ng Ka Long in their three encounters, with the previous win occurring at the Singapore Open last year.
While celebrating this victory, Ng Tze Yong faces another formidable challenge in his pursuit of reaching the semifinals. He is set to meet former world champion, Loh Kean Yew from Singapore, who overcame China’s Zhao Jun Peng in a hard-fought match with a score of 21-19, 17-21, 21-6.
Notably, in the first round of the 2023 Korea Open, Ng Ka Long, currently coached by Ng Tze Yong’s former coach, Wong Choong Hann, eliminated Lee Zii Jia, who was under the guidance of his ex-coach, Wong Tat Meng, securing a 21-15, 18-21, 21-17 victory.
With Ng Tze Yong’s victory on Thursday, Malaysia maintains a representative in the men’s singles event following the earlier defeats of Lee Zii Jia, Leong Jun Hao, and Cheam June Wei in the first round.
Impressively, this marks the fifth time Ng Tze Yong has reached the quarterfinals this season, previously achieving the feat at the Thailand Masters, All England, Swiss Open, and Thailand Open. His consistent performances highlight his prowess and potential in the badminton arena.
