Jakarta: Malaysia’s men’s doubles world champions, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik had a successful start in the men’s doubles event at the Indonesia Open on Wednesday. They defeated Indonesia’s 2022 All-England champions,
Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, in straight sets, winning 21-16, 21-12 in just 33 minutes. This victory marked their second consecutive win over an Indonesian pair, following their success in the Singapore Open last week.

In the second round, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik will face South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu/Kim Won Ho. Their opponents, Su Ching Heng/Ye Hong Wei from Chinese Taipei, withdrew from the match when Choi/Kim were leading 11-4 in the second game.
On the other hand, Malaysian players Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun faced a tough challenge in the first round of men’s doubles. They narrowly lost to the Japanese pair of Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi, with a final score of 21-19, 15-21, 19-21. Unfortunately, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun missed out on advancing to the round of 16. Matsui/Takeuchi will now compete against China’s Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng in the second round.
In the mixed doubles category, Malaysian free agents Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing secured a convincing victory in the first round. They defeated England’s Gregory Mairs/Jenny Moore 21-14, 21-13, advancing to the top 16. This win ended their previous streak of early exits in five consecutive tournaments. However, another Malaysian pair, Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See went down to the Indonesian duo of Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti 16-21, 9-21.
