Taipei: Former women’s singles World No. 1 has seemingly set up a timetable for her retirement from badminton.
Speaking to Taiwanese media while attending the 3 on 3 exhibition match in Kaohsiung last Saturday, Tai said she originally planned to play until the end of 2021, but now, she has decided to end her badminton career at the end of 2024 after the Paris Olympics.
“For now, I am just going to cherish every opportunity I have to compete on the badminton court. I’ll continue to play until the end of next year,” said Tai.
“Even if I can still compete after 2024, I don’t think I want to play anymore,” added Tai.
After the 3 on 3 event, Tai posted the message below on her Instagram:
“Every athlete will have a day of gradual decline due to age, and I am no exception, but I will practice hard and appreciate the days that I could still be running on the court, and I will continue to fight until the last moment. Please clap and cheer for me, this would mean a lot to me! !”

After returning to Taiwan from the All England Open in March, she has been busy getting ready for the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 25 to 30 April 2023.
According to Taiwanese media, Tai did not intend to participate in this year’s Asia Championships originally but changed her mind because she wanted to maintain the feeling of the competition right before the 2023 Sudirman Cup, which is the first eligible ranking tournament for the Race to Paris Olympic qualification.
