Madrid: Japan’s No. 1 seed Kenta Nishimoto defeated compatriot and No. 2 seed Kanta Tsuneyama 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 in one hour and 15 minutes to win his first BWF Super 300 title on Sunday.
Nishimoto put up an immense fighting spirit as the World No. 15 player came back from 12-16 in the decider to eventually took home the men’s singles trophy.

In the women’s singles final, Indonesia’s World No. 12 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung avoided going down 0-8 in her 8th head-to-head career meeting against World No. 11 PV Sindhu of India on Sunday.
Tunjung who had previously lost to Sindhu 7 consecutive times, stunned Sindhu in straight games, winning her first BWF World Tour title with the score of 21-8, 21-8 in only 29 minutes.
The men’s doubles final saw China’s World No. 18 He Ji Ting/Zhou Hao Dong pulled away to beat World No. 60 Lee Fang-Chih/Lee Fang-Jen of Taiwan 21-5, 21-12 to win their first BWF World Tour title as a pair.
The Chinese team also won the women’s doubles title when Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning overcame teammates Chen Fang Hui/Du Yue 21-8, 16-21, 21-18.
Meanwhile, Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje outlasted 2020 All-England champions – Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia 22-20, 21-18 in the mixed doubles final.
