Basel: Malaysia’s World No. 8 men’s pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi outplayed their opponents from Scotland – Alexander Dunn/Adam Hall to secure a 22-20, 21-13 win in the 2023 Swiss Open first round.

They will meet either Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura or Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan in the second round.

Also advanced were the reigning men’s doubles World Champions Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik enjoyed an easy passage into the 2023 Swiss Open second round with a straight-sets victory over Arthur Boudier/Minh Quang Pham of Switzerland 21-10, 21-10.

They will play Akira Koga/Taichi Saito whom they lost to in the 2023 German Open second round on March 9, 2023 (13-21, 18-21), in the second round.

In men’s singles, Malaysia’s World No. 53 Soong Joo Ven successfully entered the main draw by winning two of his qualifying matches on Tuesday. He will meet compatriot World No. 26 Ng Tze Yong in the first round of the main draw on Wednesday.

The World No. 48 women’s singles Kisona Selvaduray of Malaysia also qualified for the main draw and will play World No. 22 Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland next.

Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien also cruised into the second round by beating Annie Xu/Kerry Xu of USA 21-18, 21-18 in the women’s doubles first round. However, Malaysia’s World No. 8 women’s pair Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan suffered their second first-round exit in two weeks by losing to Lee Chia Hsin/Teng Chun Hsun of Taiwan 15-21, 21-14, 16-21.
