Lingshui: China’s 2012 London Olympics men’s doubles gold medalist – Cai Yun has returned to China’s national badminton team to help coach the women’s doubles department.
Although Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan won 7 titles in 2022, and Zheng Yu/Zhang Shuxian were able to claim the 2022 Australia Open, the rest of the Chinese women’s doubles pairs were not showing satisfactory progress.
The women’s doubles department was to blame for the 2-3 loss to Korea in the 2022 Uber Cup final as Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan lost to Lee Sohee/Shin Seungchan 21-12, 18-21, 18-21 while Huang Dong Ping/Li Wen Mei lost to Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Heeyong 20-22, 17-21 before Wang Zhi Yi went down to Sim Yujin 26-28, 21-18, 8-21 in the third women’s singles match.
Nevertheless, before departing for the 2023 Malaysia Open which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Jan 10 to Jan 15, 2023, the Chinese women’s doubles department held an internal competition among 6 women’s doubles teams alongside two young men’s doubles pairs, and in a battle between women’s doubles and men’s doubles, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan showed their skills and excellent court awareness to record 1 win and 1 loss against young men’s pair Sun Wenjun/Cui Hechen.
In addition to Chen/Jia, Zheng Yu/Du Yue, Liu Shengshu/Zhang Shuxian, Li Wenmei/Liu Xuanxuan, Tan Ning/Xia Yuting, Li Yijing/Luo Xumin and other women’s pairs also fought against each other.
The Chinese team will leave for Malaysia this weekend and the women’s doubles team was hoping to achieve new breakthroughs in the new season.
