Bangkok: Viktor Axelsen clinched his fourth BWF Finals title on Sunday by beating Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-13, 21-14 in 41 minutes.
Before Sunday’s match, Axelsen had won the BWF Super Series Finals and World Tour Finals three times (2016, 2017, 2021). This also marked the eighth title for Axelsen of the season and he had only lost three and retired two out of 54 matches he played in the season.

Axelsen’s victory on Sunday also tied him with Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei for the most singles titles in the BWF year-end event previously known as the Super Series Finals.
“Today the wind was not too strong, I was able to balance both my offense and defense, and I hope I can also produce strong results in 2023,” said Axelsen after the match.
In women’s singles, Akane Yamaguchi who won the Finals in 2017, had to dig deep to see off Tai Tzu Ying from Taiwan 21-18, 22-20 in the final.

The 1.56cm Yamaguchi was excited after the win.
“I may not be that tall, that’s why I use my speed to control the pace of the game. I am happy to end the year on a high note,” said Yamaguchi.
The badminton powerhouse produced a clean sweep in the doubles events by bagging the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles titles.
Playing against their idols, China’s men’s doubles pair Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi overcame Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 21-17, 19-21, 21-12 in 59 minutes.

Meanwhile, China’s Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, and Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong denied the hosts Thailand successes as they beat Benyapa Aimsaard/Nuntakarn Aimsaard 21-13, 21-14 and Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-19, 18-21, 21-13 in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles finals respectively.
