Goh/Lai will meet World No. 52 Gregory Mairs/Jenny Moore of England next.
In men’s doubles, World No. 45 Tan Kian Meng/Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia saw off the spirited challenge from World No. 38 Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar of France 21-17, 20-22, 21-18 in 54 minutes to play World No. 31 Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang of China in the second round.
The World No. 27 women’s doubles pair – Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien also advanced by beating World No. 63 Simran Singhi/Ritika Thaker of India 21-11, 21-12. Hoo/Lim are set to take on World No. 19 Benyapa Aimsaard/Nuntakarn Aimsaard of Thailand on Thursday.
In men’s singles, Singapore’s World No. 5 Loh Kean Yew held off a strong comeback attempt by the 2022 Denmark Open champion and the World No. 37 Shi Yuqi of China, beating the Chinese player 21-5, 22-20 to set up a second-round encounter with World No. 23 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia.
World No. 29 Daren Liew became the only Malaysian men’s singles left in the tournament and will play World No. 32 Li Shi Feng of China in the second round.
