Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 60 mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See wanted to make the Denmark Open (Oct 18, 2022 – Oct 23, 2022) a tournament for them to regain confidence.
The pair, who started playing together in June 2022, is still struggling to achieve strong results with their best achievement so far was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2022 Vietnam Open before losing to Rohan Kapoor/Reddy N. Sikki of India 19-21, 17-21.
They were eliminated either in the first or the second round at the 2022 Indonesia Masters, 2022 Indonesia Open, 2022 Malaysia Open, 2022 Malaysia Masters, 2022 Singapore Open, and 2022 Japan Open.
Chan who won silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with Goh Liu Ying, admitted their confidence level is decreasing due to their failure of achieving positive results.
“During training, we don’t have any problems but when we play at tournaments, the situation became different. In training, you could do your best but there’s always pressure when competing at tournaments and the feeling was just not the same,” said Chan.
“I admit that we are not perfect but I will continue to work hard and try to find harmony between us on the court. At the Denmark Open this time, we will try to do our best and hope to regain our confidence,” added Chan.
However, Chan said they have a tough draw at the Denmark Open as they were scheduled to meet the Chinese pair, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in the first round of the tournament.
“Dong Ping is an experienced player and an Olympic champion (Tokyo 2020). Even though she is paired with younger players this time, I believe it will not be easy to play them and we need to prepare as best as possible,” continued Chan.
