Kuala Lumpur: Anders Antonsen has added himself to the list of big-name withdrawals from the Malaysia Open, Malaysia Masters, and Singapore Open, pulling out of the Malaysia Open (Jun 28, 2022 – Jul 3, 2022), Malaysia Masters (July 5, 2022 – July 10, 2022), and Singapore Open (July 12, 2022, to July 17, 2022) because of an injury.
In a YouTube video posted on his own YouTube channel Thursday, Antonsen didn’t specify what type of injury that caused him to pull out of those tournaments.
“I have come to the conclusion, that I am not going to be ready to play any of the upcoming tournaments. The injury that I’ve been struggling with, trying to fix for the previous weeks, has been difficult. And I have realized that I am not going to be ready for the tournaments, neither of the two in Malaysia and the one in Singapore,” said Antonsen.
“Instead, I am in the airport in KL (Kuala Lumpur), and I’ll head home to Denmark in a few hours,” continued Antonsen.
“When I reach home, I will see the doctors, see my physio, make a good plan for my recovery,” added Antonsen.
The 25-year-old World No. 3 men’s singles player has yet to win a BWF World Tour title in 2022, as he appeared to be struggling in recent tournaments when he lost to Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia in the first round of the 2022 Thailand Open, and gave Heo Kwang Hee of Korea a walkover in the first round of Indonesia Masters and didn’t compete in the 2022 Indonesia Open.
Antonsen joined Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon in sitting out these three competitions where Malaysia Open is set to begin next Tuesday, while Lee Zii Jia and Daren Liew have decided to skip the 2022 Singapore Open.
