Jakarta: The match between Lee Zii Jia and Loh Kean Yew in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open was a down-to-the-wire three-setter in which the crowd inside Senayan Istora Stadium was cheering for both players for their breathtaking performance.

The World No. 5 Lee saved a match point, coming back from 19-20 in the decider to eventually prevail over the World No. 9 Loh 21-18, 16-21, 22-20 in a 65-minute battle and to advance to the semi-finals.

“I was lucky to win the last point. I was happy with this win especially after Kean Yew has regained his confidence level. He played very well at the last tournament and also at this tournament,” said Lee.

“We have a similar playing style and our strength is attacking. I was able to stay focused and reduce easy mistakes, especially in the last few points,” added Lee.

Lee will face the World No. 1, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, after Axelsen defeated Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from Indonesia 21-13, 19-21, 21-9 to enter the semi-finals.

H.S Prannoy of India will play Zhao Jun Peng of China in another men’s singles semi-finals.

In women’s singles, the China team has occupied 3 out of 4 slots available in the semi-finals. World No. 2 Tai Tzu Ying will set up her 21st career head-to-head battle with the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist – Chen Yufei, while both He Bingjiao and Wang Zhiyi of China will be fighting for another ticket to the final at the top half of the bracket.
