Jakarta: The 2018, 2019, and 2020 Indonesia Masters mixed doubles champions – Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong of China are one match away from winning their fourth Indonesia Masters title on Sunday.
Zheng/Huang who won the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships and the 2022 Thailand Open, came from dropping the first game to beat Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung of Korea 19-21, 21-14, 21-12 in the semi-finals on Saturday.
The World No. 2 Zheng/Huang extended their career head-to-head record against Seo/Chae to 7-0 after Saturday’s victory. The Chinese pair will take on World No. 11 Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France in the final.
In women’s singles, Chen Yu Fei outlasted compatriot He Bing Jiao 21-17, 21-14 to set up a final clash with Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. Intanon came from 4-8, 11-14 to ultimately topple Han Yue of China 13-21, 21-14, 21-18 to set up her 17th career meeting with Chen in the final.
Before Sunday’s final, Chen held a huge 14-2 career head-to-head win over Intanon.
In women’s doubles, home pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti came through a tough challenge given by the Malaysian pair – Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan, needed 74 minutes to see off the Malaysians 21-23, 21-14, 21-14.
The Indonesia Masters would be Rahayu and Ramadhanti’s first final as a women’s doubles pair in a BWF sactioned tournament since they were paired up in the February of 2022. They played their first international tournament at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games and successfully captured the SEA Games gold medal in May 2022.
Rahayu/Ramadhanti will play Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan of China for the women’s doubles crown.
