Jakarta: Lee Zii Jia got through an easy test in the Indonesia Masters second round on Thursday by overcoming Mark Caljouw of Netherlands 21-17, 21-14 in 37 minutes to set up his 6th matchup against the World No. 6 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the quarter-finals.
Ginting who held a 4-1 career meeting record over Lee, defeated Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand 21-13, 21-14 in the second round, and was hoping to redeem himself from his recent slump in form by beating Lee in the quarter-finals.
“Thank God I was able to finish the match well and without any injuries. I’ve been more proactive in attacking from the beginning of the match,” said Ginting.
However, Ginting said he didn’t want to think too much about Lee Zii Jia in the quarter-finals, he just wanted to take it one game at a time.
“I don’t think about my opponent, my focus is to keep improving my own performance,” added Ginting.
“As we all know my performance has not been good lately but I am getting better.”
“It’s more about preparing myself as much as possible and hopefully I can play well on Friday,” continued Ginting.
In women’s singles, China’s No. 1 seed Chen Yufei saw off Zhang Beiwen of USA 21-10, 21-19 to next face Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.
Nevertheless, the No. 2 seed An Se Young of Korea retired from the match while she was trailing 1-4 in the second game against Iris Wang of USA. Young lost the first set 19-21.
