Jakarta: Malaysia’s Rio Olympics mixed doubles silver medalists – Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying who announced their split in December of 2021, will be facing each other from the opposite side of the court when they take on each other in the Indonesia Masters first-round match on Wednesday.

Chan/Goh who had been playing together for 13 years before parted ways at the end of last year, will be competing with their respective new partners.

Chan is now being paired with Cheah Yee See while Goh will be partnering with Soong Joo Ven for the first time.

“I really don’t want to play against Liu Ying in the tournament because she was a good partner. However, BWF seemed to want to make fun of us by drawing us as opponents in the first round of Indonesia Masters,” said Chan.

The winners will face either Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso of Indonesia or Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung of Korea in the second round.

In addition to the mixed doubles pairs above, men’s doubles No. 4 seeds Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik will also set up an all-Malaysian first-round battle with unseeded compatriots Tan Kian Meng/Tan Wee Kiong.

The big names in men’s singles such as Viktor Axelsen, Lee Zii Jia, Chou Tien Chen, and Anders Antonsen will be part of the first-round matches in Jakarta on Wednesday. Axelsen, Lee, Chou, and Antonsen are set to play Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Soong Joo Ven, and Heo Kwang Hee in the opening round respectively.
