Milan: Goh Jin Wei pulled off a last-ditch escape in the 2022 Italian International second round after her frenzied 47 minutes 22-24, 21-12, 24-22 victory over Rituparna Das of India on Friday.
Earlier Friday, Goh was also made to work before beating Jennie Gai of USA 15-21, 21-13, 21-9 in the first round.
The World No. 81 Goh will play World No. 87 Rachel Chan of Canada on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s World No. 72 men’s singles player – Cheam June Wei managed to see off Jason Teh Jia Heng of Singapore 21-19, 21-13 and Fabio Caponio of Italy 21-17, 21-15 in the first and second round respectively to play Indonesia’s World No. 156 Christian Adinata next.
In the men’s doubles category, the World No. 204 Chia Weijie/Low Hang Yee also made it to the last eight. Chia/Low will play Chen Zhi Ray/Lee Fang-Jen of Chinese Taipei for a place in the semi-finals.
