India to Play Thailand in 2022 Uber Cup Quarters

Bangkok: Despite losing to Korea 0-5 in its last Group D tie on Wednesday, the Indian women’s team managed to cruise into the 2022 Uber Cup quarter-finals, and will play Thailand on Thursday.

India’s PV Sindhu started the first women’s singles match strong against An Seyoung as she was leading 13-8. However, the young badminton star from Korea ultimately reeled off 8 straight points, coming back from 13-15 to win the first game 21-15.

Sindhu had a 9-4 lead in game 2, but An once again reversed the lead to win 21-14 and give Korea a 1-0 lead.

Korea’s World No 2 women’s pair – Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan then outlasted Simran Singhi/Shruti Mishra in straight games 21-13, 21-12 to make it 2-0.

World No. 19 Kim Gaeun then demolished Aakarshi Kashyap 21-10, 21-10 to clinch the winning point for Korea and to assure Korea emerged champions of Group D.

Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Heeyong and Sim Yujin then defeated their respective opponents in the second women’s doubles and third women’s singles matches to complete the 5-0 sweep against the Indian team.

1. Indonesia vs. China
2. Japan vs. Chinese Taipei
3. Korea vs. Denmark
4. India vs. Thailand
