Basel: Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia enjoyed a trouble-free opening to their 2022 Swiss Open campaign Tuesday, dismissing World No. 125 Indians M.R. Arjun/Treesa Jolly 21-15, 21-17 to advance to the second round.
Tan/Lai will face World No. 232 Mathias Thyrri/Amalie Magelund of Denmark next.
Despite being sent packing by Mathias Thyrri/Amalie Magelund in the first round of the 2022 All England last Wednesday, the World No. 13 Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai played some brilliant badminton to dismiss Indian duo – Dhruv Kapila/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 21-18, 21-15 to meet Adam Hall/Julie Macpherson of Scotland in the second round.
In other mixed doubles first-round match, after dropping the first game 18-21 to India’s World No. 65 mixed doubles pair – Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto, World No. 29 Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei of Malaysia came back from 1-7, 8-13 to successfully force a decider by winning the second game 22-20.
Chen/Peck were again got off to a slow start in the third game, trailing 1-6, before wrapping up the game 21-14. They will meet the winners between Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France or Reddy B. Sumeeth/Ashwini Ponnappa of India in the second round.
